Be One Fellowship is a local congregation located in the suburbs of Birmingham, Alabama. Our community is diverse yet unified. Our vision is based on the calling of the L-rd to be one as the Father and Yeshua are one, that the world may know that Yeshua is from the Father (John 17:21-24) and to go and "make disciples of all nations...teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you..." (Matthew 28:19-20). To that end, we walk the same ancient path as did the disciples. As you read through the sections of this page you will see how we do fellowship.
Some have inquired whether we are a Messianic Jewish congregation or a Christian congregation. Please see our FAQ for the answer to those and other questions. Briefly, we are a fellowship defined by our commitment to the Lord through His Son, Yeshua, our commitment to the study and application of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and our commitment to each other as a family in the Lord.
Our vision statement is simply: “Building a community of disciples one Shabbat at a time!”
Here is what this means to us:
Building: A committed, intentional work. To build something requires planning, effort, and commitment. We do not gather by accident. Each gathering is designed to allow for the engagement of G-d and people. We realize that being a community requires work.
Community: A gathering of people committed to loving each other and G-d in unity. There are many communities in the body of Messiah, and we honor those. We believe in diversity rather than division. G-d's diversity enables us to have a distinctive community while maintaining unity within the larger body of Messiah. We are blessed to have many great relationships with other communities of faith that celebrate and worship differently from our community. However, we each hold to the essentials of the faith (see our Statement of Faith).
Our community is based on the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. We believe that we are better together.
Disciples: Disciples actively follow, learn, walk, and train others in the faith. Our Biblical mandate is to "disciple the nations," and we focus our energy on this. Our philosophy of discipleship is built on the first two foundations (Building and Community). Discipleship does not happen by accident but requires work and it does not happen alone. Isolation prevents true growth in the faith. Community builds growth.
Shabbat: In order to build a community, disciples must grow the commitment of time and energy spent. We express ourselves with the Shabbat. This is the seventh day of the week. We are instructed to "guard, keep and rest" on Shabbat. The seventh day begins at sundown on Friday night and ends at sundown on Saturday according to the Biblical day. We meet in homes on Friday evening for dinner, or some groups meet on Saturday for fellowship, prayer, and bible study (See the Halakah page for more info). Our desire to celebrate Shabbat with family and friends is a not only a Biblical pattern but a fun one as well.
To fulfill the call God has given to our community, equipping people is a foundational necessity.
Biblical literacy and Spiritual filling are the two ways a person can consistently grow in their walk with G-d and people. Based on this, we provide multiple opportunities for people to connect around Biblical teaching and Spirit-filled events.
